Walk-in closet planning

When a spare room becomes dressing space

Belair and Kirchberg three-bedroom flats sometimes dedicate the smallest bedroom to storage because the master lacks an alcove. A walk-in replaces freestanding rails that block the window and clutter guest visits.

We map door swing, radiator, and smoke detector positions first. Circulation width of 900 mm minimum keeps two people from brushing shoulders during morning routines.

Galley layouts along one wall

Single-wall runs suit rooms from 2.2 m deep where the opposite side holds a dressing table or luggage. Open shelving at the ends displays bags; closed drawers hide underwear and seasonal items.

Mirror panels on the door into the walk-in bounce light from a single ceiling fixture — useful in north-facing bedrooms common in dense city blocks.

U-shaped and peninsula options

Rooms from 2.8 m square can wrap storage on three sides with an island peninsula for watches and jewellery. Peninsula height stays below window sill level so natural light still reaches the centre.

Corner units use L-shaped hanging to avoid dead zones behind hinged doors. Pull-out mirrors on soft-close slides replace wall-mounted glass that would conflict with shelf depth.

Lighting and ventilation

LED strip at rail level prevents shadows on dark fabrics. We note driver locations accessible from the corridor side of the carcass for future bulb changes without dismantling panels.

Enclosed walk-ins without windows need passive vent grilles aligned with building regulations. Your syndic or manager may require written approval before boxing in an existing air vent.

Design fee and timeline

Walk-in layout packages run three weeks from measure to issued drawings and are listed at €1,450 on the pricing ledger. Complex U-shapes with island joinery may add a second drawing week.
